Soyuz Space Rocket Talk
The image shows Terry in front of a Soyuz launch vehicle at the Baikonur Launch site in Kazakhstan, in 2003. In the nosecone is the European Space Agency’s Mars Express spacecraft, carrying the UK’s Beagle2 Mars Lander.
It was from the Baikonur site, in 1961, that Yuri Gagarin was launched, to become the first human to orbit the Earth - aboard an early version of that Soyuz rocket. Just being there and seeing memorials to Gagarin in the local town was enough to get Terry researching the information to tell the whole story of Yuri Gagarin – and the Chief Designer who developed all the necessary hardware to get it to happen.
